Eilean Donan Castle Elopement, Scottish Highlands

In November 2021, I had the opportunity to photograph Kat & Patrick’s elopement in Scotland. These two flew over from California to tie the knot at the famous Eileen Donan Castle in the Scottish Highlands. Honestly, there are fewer locations in the whole of Scotland better to elope at than Eilean Donan, especially from a photographers point of view. Set out on a tidal island along Loch Duich, this castle epitomises what makes the Highlands of Scotland so special, transporting you back in time to a medieval era.For Kat & Patrick, a postponement due to travel restrictions meant that these two had to wait a year, which if anything made their day even more special in the end. After both getting ready at the Plockton Hotel just a short drive away from the venue, Kat & Patrick had their first look in the hills above Eilean Donan Castle, which looked amazing in the autumn colours.
These two had a hand fasting ceremony in the castle, followed by a beautiful first dance in the lower quarters. This day couldn’t have gone any better for these two fantastic people, who had their dream day here. It had always been a dream of mine to photograph an elopement in the Scottish Highlands, and I can only hope that there will be many more in the future.
