Dunnottar Castle Elopement | Scotland Renewal of Vows

Renewal of Vows | Scotland | Dunnottar Castle - 4th June 2022

At the beginning of June, Rachel & Jon flew over from the United States to celebrate their five year anniversary of their wedding in Scotland. They also decided that they wanted to renew their vows whilst here, and chose Dunnottar Castle as the location. Having never been to Scotland before, and hearing amazing things about the many number of castles here, they just knew that they had to find the perfect spot for this. Things did not get off to the best start however, as when they actually landed in to Edinburgh, Jon’s luggage had been lost. Thankfully, they were able to head to do some shopping that afternoon for some replacement clothes.

Dunnottar Castle in Aberdeenshire - Scotland Summer Elopement

As probably one of the most recognisable castles in Aberdeenshire, Rachel & Jon got incredibly lucky on this particular morning. Often when planning an elopement in the Scottish Highlands, or Scotland in general, the weather is one thing that you can not predict, and is often something that you just have to go along with on the day. Luckily for these two, they had a beautifully clear morning on the cliffs.

Etched in the history of Scotland, this stunning castle ruin has been a popular tourist and elopement destination over the last few years. Since being abandoned in the 16th Century, Dunnottar has been a reminder of the rich history of this stunning country, epitomising the level of architecture of Scotland during the medieval times. This castle has also served as an inspiration for many film and television programmes, such as Game of Thrones, where the idea for the ‘Iron Islands’ was formed. It is clear therefore to see why Dunnottar Castle has become a top elopement location in Scotland.

Renewing your vows can be such a special way to celebrate a milestone in your marriage, and with the Scottish Highlands and the east coast of Scotland being a perfect backdrop, it is definitely something worth considering.
